Tsitsi Masiyiwa receives African Woman of the year in health & education award

Higherlife Foundation Co-Chair, Mrs. Tsitsi Masiyiwa recently received the “2016 African Woman of the year in health and education” award from New African Woman magazine.

The New African Woman magazine is an award-winning, bi-monthly, women’s publication covering the entire African continent and its Diaspora. It provides in-depth coverage on a diverse range of issues that truly speak to and resonate with the African/Black woman worldwide.

The New African Woman Awards recognised and celebrated some of Africa’s phenomenal women who through their work, are not only breaking barriers that hold back women’s progress, but are inspiring the next generation and showcasing where Africa can be if gender inequality was not an issue.

Tsitsi Masiyiwa’s nomination is a result of her work with Higherlife Foundation. Higherlife Foundation is a philanthropic organisation that is investing in Africa’s future through education. The Foundation offers scholarships to orphaned and vulnerable children through the Capernaum Scholarship and extends local and international merit-based scholarships to highly gifted students through the Joshua Nkomo Scholarship. Higherlife Foundation was founded in 1996 by Strive and Tsitsi Masiyiwa and has directly and indirectly impacted more than 250 000 children across Africa over the past 20 years.

Over 100 000 students have received education and material support over the past 20 years. The Foundation has also built over 50 learning hubs in Zimbabwe, Lesotho and Burundi. The Foundation seeks to impact two million African Scholars by 2020.

Higherlife Foundation is solely funded by Econet which is a privately held diversified telecommunications group with operations and investments in Africa, Europe, South America, North America and the East Asia Pacific Rim, offering products and services in the core areas of mobile and fixed telephony services, broadband, internet, satellite and fibre optic networks.
